Mark Whitfield is an SC-cleared Senior Project and Engagement Manager at Capgemini UK who specializes in enterprise-scale digital transformations, hybrid cloud migrations, and middleware frameworks.

🔌 MuleSoft Augmentation

During his nine-month resource augmentation placement, Whitfield operated out of MuleSoft’s London headquarters (Salesforce Tower above) as an augmented Delivery Manager.

  • The Role: Functioned similarly to a Programme Manager, serving as the critical link between MuleSoft’s internal services and the client’s project leadership.
  • Core Duties: Handled end-to-end account management, statements of work (SOWs), resource staffing, financial revenue recognition, and contract extensions.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborated with Engagement Managers, Account Executives, and Customer Success teams to manage account health, software renewals, and upsell opportunities.
  • On-site Delivery Pod: Led a specialized 3-person advisory pod consisting of himself, a MuleSoft Senior Architect, and a Senior Consultant to successfully enable client engineering teams.

📂 MuleSoft Projects Managed

Whitfield led complex enterprise integration, API-led connectivity, and data pipeline projects utilizing the MuleSoft Anypoint Platform across several major sectors:

  • UK Utility Industry: Directed large-scale middleware deployments to replace siloed, legacy architectures with modern integration layers.
  • Accounting & Recruitment Sectors: Supervised the design and implementation of secure data flows connecting hybrid cloud and on-premises environments.
  • Royal Mail Group (RMG): Managed a £4.3 million migration project orchestrating over 1,100 interfaces to seamlessly integrate internal back-office applications with external trading partners.
  • Jaguar Land Rover (JLR): Directed the complex iFAB Middleware Project, a 12-month architecture development program linking global manufacturing supply chain components.
  • Anypoint Suite Management: Directed configurations across key technical components, including Anypoint Design Center (API design), Exchange (asset sharing), and the Management Center (API analytics, access management, and Runtime Manager).

📐 MuleSoft Methodology

Whitfield is trained in MuleSoft’s core structural delivery frameworks, transitioning clients away from rigid point-to-point custom code to highly modular, reusable architectures:

1. API-Led Connectivity

  • System APIs: Modular layers that securely isolate and surface raw data from core underlying systems of record.
  • Process APIs: Logic layers that shape, combine, and orchestrate System API data to mirror specific business processes.
  • Experience APIs: Consumption layers that reconfigure data into user-friendly formats tailored for target endpoints like mobile apps, web portals, or IoT devices.

2. Outcome-Based Delivery (OBD)

Whitfield specialized in MuleSoft’s OBD playbook to tie technical output directly to business KPIs:

  • Business Strategy: Aligning stakeholders on target business outcomes, drafting overall success plans, and continuously monitoring key metrics.
  • Technology Delivery: Establishing the platform vision, mapping out deployment models (cloud, on-premises, or hybrid), prioritizing quick-win IT projects, and formulating reference architectures.

3. Organizational Enablement (Catalyst & C4E)

  • Center for Enablement (C4E): Rather than acting as a traditional, central IT bottleneck, Whitfield utilized the C4E model to empower cross-functional business units. This involved publishing reusable templates, assets, and api policies to drastically scale development.
  • MuleSoft Catalyst Paths: Executed project workflows against the 4 standard Catalyst phases: Plan for Success, Establish the Foundation, Build to Scale, and Measure Impact.
